Fees
-
Lesson fees will be quoted at the time of booking and may be increased at any time with a minimum of 1 months’ notice.
-
Payment should be made at least 24 hours in advance via online banking or cash.
-
If the pupil decides to take advantage of a discounted block booking, then payment must clear before the first lesson.
-
Failure to pay in advance of the lesson may lead to the lesson being cancelled and charged in full.
-
If the pupil decides to cancel lessons mid-way through the block booking period, refunds may be considered. However, any hours used will then be charged at the hourly ‘pay as you go’ rate, minus the cost of a one hour lesson.
Driving licences
-
All pupils must show their provisional (or full UK or international) driving licence at the first lesson.
-
The pupil must highlight any reasons for why the licence has not been granted for a standard 10 year period (such as for medical reasons).
-
The pupil must inform the instructor immediately if they receive any endorsements on their licence during the period they are receiving tuition.
Lesson bookings via the app
-
The pupil and instructor will agree to all lesson times, dates and locations before these are added to the diary.
-
All pupils must download and set up their account within the app.
-
Lessons will be confirmed and synced via the app to avoid any confusion. The app will confirm the diary and money transactions plus many other useful services.
-
Priority may be given to those pupils who are able to book multiple lessons in advance. This will allow pupils to book lessons at a mutually convenient time. Your instructor may be booking up to 20 other lessons each week and agreeing a consistent day and time each week allows for a more structured diary.
Cancellations

-
Excessive cancellations, regardless of notice given, and long periods in between each lesson session is unacceptable and may result in withdrawing the services as the driving instruction provider.
-
Pupils must give a minimum of 48 hours’ notice to cancel or change a lesson.f illness / bereavement / unforeseen circumstances.
-
Failure to do this will result in the full lesson fee being payable or hours lost (if prepaid).
-
If a pupil consistently cancels without 48 hours’ notice, future lessons may be terminated.
-
Discretion will be used in the event of illness / bereavement / unforeseen circumstances.

Lesson planning
-
Both the instructor and pupil agree to meet at the allocated time and place as on the app for each lesson.
-
Delays may be unavoidable and flexibility may be required to fulfil the obligation.
-
Delays of up to 15 minutes by the pupil may not be ‘added’ to the end of the lesson due to diary commitments.
-
Delays of 15 minutes or more by the pupil may immediately cancel the lesson and the full fee will apply.
-
Both the instructor and pupil should communicate as necessary in the event of a lesson delay of any kind.
-
If the pupil shows up for the lesson and is judged to be ‘not fit to drive’ (due to but not limited to the effects of alcohol, recreational drugs, medicine or illness), the lesson will be immediately terminated and the full lesson charge applied.

Use of your instructors driving school car
-
Test Valley Driving reserves the absolute right to refuse, at any time, the use of the car for any test/lessons if:
○ If the pupil’s driving is considered below the standard required to pass the test or it is considered unlikely to reach the required standard in the time available.
â—‹ If the pupil’s driving standard has been adversely affected by the cancellation of lessons for whatever reason.
○ If the pupil appears unwell or to be affected by the influence of alcohol, recreational drugs, medicine or illness.
â—‹ If any fees remain unpaid.
-
Test Valley Driving will not be held responsible for any costs, expenses, claims or losses caused or incurred following the refusal or inability to provide a car/instructor for any reason for a practical test.
-
In the event that the instructor accompanies the pupil to the driving test and the test does not go ahead due to negligence (for example the pupil has booked the wrong day or test centre or failed to show a correct licence to the examiner), then the pupil will still have to pay the instructor as per a normal lesson in order to cover costs and time.
-
Driving tests can be cancelled by the DVSA for other reasons (such as weather or illness). This is outside the control of Test Valley Driving and therefore the usual driving lesson/car hire fees will still apply. The DVSA may reimburse the value of the test.
-
Your driving instructor shall ensure the vehicle provided is fitted with dual controls, fully roadworthy, taxed, have a valid MOT (where relevant) and is fully insured for the purposes of driving instruction.
-
The DVSA allows pupils to take their own cars to the test. Please see the DVSA website for details.
Test day
-
Pupils are strongly advised not to book a practical test without prior consent of the instructor.
-
A ‘mock test’ will be carried out in the weeks before a test date and this usually highlights faults which should be rectified in advance.
-
The use of the instructor’s car remains at the discretion of the instructor.
-
The instructor’s car will not be available at all times due to annual leave etc.
-
The pupil will be responsible to book, pay and administer the Theory and Practical driving tests. The driving instructor can give advice on how to book a test or amend it using a suitable app.
-
The instructor does not admit any liability for using a ‘cancellation app’.
-
If by mutual agreement, the pupil chooses to use the instructor’s car for the practical test, this will be charged the usual rate for the total time. This is usually a 2 hour round trip.

Common Courtesy
-
Both the pupil and instructor will show courtesy and respect to each other and all other road users at all times, both verbally and physically.
-
Both will dress appropriately for each lesson.
-
Both will maintain a professional standard of personal hygiene.
-
Both will refrain from eating, drinking and smoking (other than by mutual consent).
-
Act in accordance within the law and the DVSA Code of Practice for Approved Driving Instructors
